On 13th Sepetmber, India is celebrating this day as Ganesh Chaturthi also named as Vinayak Chaturthi. This is 10 day festival which comes on the 4th day according to the Hindu lunar calendar. This day celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha – birth of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
On this day, People celebrate by welcoming Ganesha at their homes for certain days depending upon the rituals. The gala celebration includes the sweets, new clothes, and dance processions on streets. Devotees welcome Ganesha with complete joy and pray for happiness, good fortune to stay for long with them. Modak, sweet dumpling, considered as the favorite of Ganesha. Thus, this sweet usually taken during prayers and as prasad.
People who welcome Ganesha on this day, have to pray morning and evening and should be with them through out the day. Depending upon the people’s accreditation this festival celebrated in different ways.
The last 10th day, known as Visarajan of Ganapati. Not necessarily, this festival to be celebrated for 10 days and Ganesha has to be there for those 10 days. Depending upon the accreditation, some do the visararjan in 3, 5 or 7 days.
With the increasing environmental concerns, people nowadays prefer for eco-friendly ganesha instead of POP made idols. The eco-friendly Ganesha when will go into the water will germinate a plant.
